For the last few years, I have been developing a list of insights that I am converting to a “book” to share with my three children. Kind of like, “this is what I have learned in my life, it may be of use to you at some time.”
Some of the topics in my book are ideas on money, friendship, food, exercise, relationships, and health. When I look over this list of awarenesses that I have developed over the course of my life, health is by far the most important topic. The most important perspective I have on health is that it has only been the last 20 years of my life that I actually thought about my health. For most of my life, I viewed my health as just feeling good. If I did not feel good, I took an aspirin or something else to take away the pain. I remember one time in my early 30’s, when I had been having headaches every day for weeks. I was convinced that I had a brain tumor, and I imagined every conceivable outcome for me. It was a dark time in my life. I imagined dying and not being able to grow old with my children. I finally got the nerve to see a neurologist, and he told me that I did not have a brain tumor. Guess what? The next day my headaches went away.
My point in sharing this story is that I have made a decision to be in charge of my health. Why is that important? Every day, you can find stories about health, or lack thereof. Here are a few that disturb me.

It’s no wonder that even today, people in this country are just chasing the problem, just like I chased my problems many years ago. What can make the difference? Knowledge! Understanding WHY your health may have declined, and HOW you can take the necessary steps to regain and maintain optimal health. If there is one thing that I am grateful for, it is the awareness that I have developed regarding health. This has been my 20+ year journey.
Why is it critical that you and your loved ones develop awareness about what health is and how to optimize your health? So that you can live your life without FEAR! Fear is what caused me to believe that I was dying of a brain tumor. Fear is what drives millions of people to reach for a drug, then another, then another if it is not working. Once they reach that point, they are addicted! What does drug addiction lead to? Physical deterioration, mental and psychological deterioration, unhappiness, an unfulfilled life, alcohol abuse, loss of motivation, loss of relationships and families, loss of jobs, and more.
You will decide what type of health you want, and it all starts with knowledge and action. The title of this article is, “Was that a Good Decision?” Recently, one of my amazing patients had a reexam. She describes how a lifetime of anxiety was melting away. Do you think she made a great decision, to be in charge of her health? I think YES! Knowledge, then taking action. What a great combination.
If you have decided that YOU are in charge of your health and life, and that you are making decisions that will have a positive impact on the rest of your life, then I congratulate you, and you should congratulate yourself, because it is easy to fall into the trap that so many millions of others fall into every day.
