What do my teeth have to do with my spine?

This week, I received a call from a member of my practice who last saw me teeth6 months ago. She had been doing well for quite some time, and then began experiencing some new symptoms that prompted her to come back in for care.

She asked, “Why did this happen to me”? Before I answered, I asked her about how she maintained the health of her teeth.

“How do you maintain the health of your teeth?”

“I regularly floss and brush”.

“What would happen if you did not floss or brush your teeth for 6 months”?

She smiled. “I would probably have bad teeth, or they would decay”.

We discussed how maintaining the health of her teeth is similar to maintaining the health of her spine.

A few days later it dawned on me. We only use our teeth 3 or 4 times a day!

Think of how often we use our spine. Standing, sitting, bending, reaching, exercising, lifting, eating, working, sleeping, worrying, stressing. The list goes on.

Now compare. For the little we use our teeth, how much time, energy, and money we put into maintaining their optimal health. Brushing, flossing, checkups, sealants, extractions, fillings, root canals, crowns, braces, implants, dentures, gum treatment, realignment, even cosmetic surgery!

Now think of how we much we use our spine, and how LITTLE time, energy, and money we invest in it! Do we have things backwards? Or, in terms of the care of our spine, do we wait for something to break down, and then, when we cannot stand it any more, we invest as little time, energy, and money as possible to return to the state we were in? Just so it can all happen again?

I know there are many members of my practice who have seen the benefit of investing in ongoing care, or OPTIMAL SPINAL FUNCTION. You see, your Nervous System, your brain, spinal cord, and spinal nerves are THE most important part of you. It controls and coordinates EVERY function in YOU, and your spine protects all those important parts.

Here’s the kicker. You CAN replace your teeth, even yank them out.

You CANNOT replace your spine, or your Nervous System.

It’s up to you. What’s more important to you? Your teeth or your Nervous System? Here’s the cool part. They can BOTH be important.

Invest in your Nervous System and spine. You’re going to need them to be at their best the rest of your life!

If you are currently receiving chiropractic care, GOOD FOR YOU!

If you are not currently, what are you waiting for?

Thanks as always for reading, and please forward to those you know and care about.
